City of Bones (Mortal Instruments Series)

Oh how I loved this book!  It is like a cross between Harry Potter and Twilight and so very awesome!  I can't wait to finish the series and can't wait to see the movie!

City of Bones (Mortal Instruments, The)

"Don’t miss The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, soon to be a major motion picture in theaters August 2013.When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? (From Amazon)

Ashfall by Mike Mullin

Seriously, if you live in Iowa, you MUST read this book.  For those in Anamosa, it should mean even more.  It is a a disaster/survival book.  Trust me- this is such a great book!

" Under the bubbling hot springs and geysers of Yellowstone National Park is a supervolcano. Most people don't know it's there. The caldera is so large that it can only be seen from a plane or satellite. It just could be overdue for an eruption, which would change the landscape and climate of our planet.

For Alex, being left alone for the weekend means having the freedom to play computer games and hang out with his friends without hassle from his mother. Then the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts, plunging his hometown into a nightmare of darkness, ash, and violence. Alex begins a harrowing trek to seach for his family and finds help in Darla, a travel partner he meets along the way. Together they must find the strength and skills to survive and outlast an epic disaster."

Award Book of the Day #1- Legend

Cover image for Legend

This is a fantastic book on the ITA list this year!  I absolutely loved it!  It reminds me a bit of the show Revolution as well.

"From the Publisher: A New York Times bestseller! What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem. From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets. Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills."

Rest of the series: Prodigy (also awesome), and Champion

Fun Note:  Marie Lu autpgraphed an advanced copy of Champion for me!  How cool is that??
